Spot Treatment - Neutrogena Visibly Clear
We all want to have perfect skin, no spots or blemishes. However, for women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), this is difficult to achieve.
Women with PCOS suffer from a hormone imbalance in which the ovary is producing too much testosterone. It is the high testosterone that causes the sebaceous glands to produce too much of the oily sebum, resulting in acne.
I do not personally have oily skin. However, I tend to develop spots on my forehead or around my mouth. I have been using these two products for over a year; Neutrogena Visibly Clear Rapid Clear Treatment (£3.57) and Neutrogena Visibly Clear Spot Stress Control (£5.99).
"NEUTROGENA VISIBLY CLEAR® Rapid Clear Treatment is an oil-free, quick drying gel which is clinically proven to reduce the size and redness of visible blemishes in just four hours without being harsh on the skin! The MICROCLEAR® technology begins working immediately to reduce the size and redness of visible blemishes, leaving you with visibly clearer skin".
"NEUTROGENA VISIBLY CLEAR® Spot Stress Control Ultra-light Spot Treatment Moisturiser is ultra-light and contains MICROCLEAR® technology, to penetrate deep down and help clear spots whilst hydrating skin. Enriched with green tea and cucumber it soothes the skin and it is gentle enough to use every day".
Taking a closer look at the ingredients, both spot treatments contain Salicylic acid and Lactic Acid which have been shown can help to treat acne and exfoliate the skin.
Salicylic Acid has been shown to penetrate sebaceous substances in the hair follicle and exfoliate the pores. Also, Salicylic Acid provides anti-inflammatory properties.
Lactic Acid is a natural moisturiser, helps to increase epidermal barrier lipids and improves water barrier properties.
I have found if I eat a certain food or if I get too stressed, I develop red spots. When I apply this spot treatment you can visibly see the spot reduce in size. I was definitely surprised at the fact that the spot gel did live up to its 4-hour claim. Then within two days, it is completely gone.
The skin tingles a bit when you apply to the spot, so you can actually feel it working, but it does not irritate. The gel seems to dry out the spot without leaving the skin dry.
Overall, I have been very happy with the results of both products. I believe this is a great spot treatment for those of you who break out with red spots fairly regularly or after eating something that causes inflammation.
Furthermore, however, I do want to mention that the products do not rid you of your acne. In order to treat your acne caused as a result of PCOS, you need to treat the root cause, hormone imbalance.
Have you tried any Neutrogena Visibly Clear products? What did you think of them?
