How To Stay Healthy At Work
Maintaining your healthy eating habits can often be more difficult at work as a result of all the office treats that come through every day. You often find yourself on the outside looking in if you don't join in and tuck in yourself. Peer pressure can lead to overindulging in treats that you didn't really want or that satisfy your hunger.
Here are some tips to help you maintain your healthy eating habits.
Bring healthy home prepped meals and snacks to the office. Have healthy snacks, fruit and veggies in your desk draw. Ask your colleagues if they would like to all invest into having more healthier options such as a communal fruit basket.
Simply Let People Know
You may be thinking, why do I need to let people know what I am doing, however, this can help make it easier for you to continue doing. If your colleagues question your eating habits simply explain to them your lifestyle change and that you are doing it for yourself to feel better. Don't criticise or force your opinions on them. You never know, you might even encourage them to make healthier choices too.
Make a support team
Find out if any of your colleagues are interested in coming on this journey with you. If you find more people you can eat healthier with and make healthier choices with it will become a lot easier to maintain the changes.
Drink plenty of water
Often sitting down all day at the office can make you forget to drink water. Make sure you drink water and stay hydrated, keep a water bottle on your desk, it is good to aim for at least 8-10 glasses of water a day, however, this also depends on how physically active you are.
Limit caffeine intake
It is common for people to drink several cups of coffee to get them through their long and stressful day. However, try and limit your caffeine intake, drink only 1 cup of coffee in the morning. This will help prevent the caffeine crash later in the day. Also, omit the sugar and creams for a healthier alternative.
Don't let your colleagues get to you
If you want to eat healthier and live a healthier lifestyle that is so great, don't let your colleagues criticisms or laughter get to you down, you do you. This is your life and decision, let them say or think what they want.
Listen to your body
If you are offered doughnuts at work, ask yourself are you hungry, do you really need the doughnut? Aim to provide your body with nourishing whole foods that will provide your body with benefits and keep you satiated.
Moderation not Deprivation
Most importantly, it is all about moderation, not deprivation. The thing about living a healthy lifestyle is that there are no foods off limit. It is all about balance, allow yourself to indulge in your cravings and to enjoy a doughnut if you want now and then. It is not necessary to deprive or restrict yourself entirely from all the office treats, you can still reach your goals if you do give in and have a treat. Allowing yourself 'treats' ensures a healthy relationship with food which is crucial to sustaining a healthy lifestyle in the long term.
